On Monday 10 November, the Lord‑Lieutenant of Kent was delighted to present Tom Baker with his richly deserved MBE at Hole Park. Widely regarded as a national treasure, Tom Baker’s unmistakable charm, talent, and humour have brought joy to millions. As the most recognisable incarnation of Doctor Who, this honour stands as a fitting tribute to his remarkable contribution to television and British culture.

In a moment sure to delight fans, Tom made his entrance from the iconic TARDIS—an affectionate nod to his long and influential tenure as the Doctor. He was joined by family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the occasion.

Across seven consecutive seasons, Tom Baker defined a role that has become woven into the nation’s cultural heritage. His portrayal of the Doctor was both commanding and compassionate, earning international acclaim and the enduring affection of audiences across generations.

Beyond his distinguished acting career, Tom has quietly devoted time to visiting individuals who might otherwise feel overlooked, particularly older people, offering companionship and kindness with characteristic humility.

For his outstanding services to Television, Mr Tom Baker has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
