Lis Sladen played Doctor Who’s Assistant, Sarah Jane Smith, for Tom’s first two series. Both from Liverpool, Lis and Tom became good friends and Tom felt that Lis’s appreciation of his sense of comedy had a lot to do with his success in the part.
